Online OA Meetings for AOL Users

There are a few extra steps AOL users have to take in order to go to online OA meetings.

 

BEFORE YOU CAN GO TO YOUR FIRST MEETING, YOU MUST DO THIS ONE TIME ONLY:

1. Go to:http://www.starchat.net/aol.php
2. Fill out the form with a nickname you want to use, your AOL email address, and a password you'll remember. Then click on the "Send Registration Form" button.
3. Write down your nickname and password. You will need them every time you go to a meeting.
4. Wait for a day or two and look for an email from Starchat telling you that your nickname is registered. When you receive this email, find the 5th line down, line 2 in the instructions. Copy this part of that line:
   /msg NickServ ACTIVATE longnumber
5. Click on the meeting link below.
6. Wait a few minutes for the meeting room to load. If you are asked to allow access to the meeting program, click "Allow" or "Grant Access."
7. Type your nickname and password into the top 2 lines of the form, then click on the "Connect to StarChat" button.
8. You'll see a lot of script scroll by, then you'll be in the meeting room. You'll be able to see other people, but you won't be able to talk to them yet.
9. In the box at the bottom of the meeting room window, paste the activate message you copied from the email, the hit Enter or Return on your keyboard to send the message to the screen. Now you should be able to participate in the meeting!
10. From now on when you go to a meeting, use the instructions below.

 

EACH SUBSEQUENT TIME YOU GO TO A MEETING:

1. Use the link above to go into the meeting room.
   
2. Wait a few minutes for the meeting room to load. If you are asked to allow access to the meeting program, click "Allow" or "Grant Access."
3. Type your nickname and password into the top 2 lines of the form, then click on the "Connect to StarChat" button.
4. You'll see a lot of script scroll by, then you'll be in the meeting room. You'll be able to see other people, but you won't be able to talk to them yet. One more step..
5. In the box at the bottom of the meeting room window, type exactly this: /quote identify yourpassword
   For example, if your password is "snowflake," you would type this: /quote identify snowflake
   As soon as you type this, hit Enter or Return on your keyboard.
   This sends your message to the server and identifies you as a known AOL user who is allowed to come into the meeting room.
